The Afghan Khal Mohammadi carpets come from around the town of Kunduz, one of the main trading centres in northern Afghanistan. The area has a long traditional of rug making predominantly in Gul and Fil Pai (elephant's foot) designs. They are woven using Karaqul wool, in an assortment of warm reds, deep red-maroon, together with gold, indigo and white.
